Melbourne SEO consultant for businesses without an SEO team

I'm Jack Genesin. I run search programs end to end for small, medium and enterprise businesses, so a senior specialist does the work, not an account manager relaying it.

Ten years across Melbourne's largest agencies, boutique shops and in-house teams. One question decides what we work on: will this bring in revenue? Rankings and traffic are how we get there, not the result I report on.

Search changed. What people buy from hasn't

AI Overviews and tools like ChatGPT now answer the questions people used to click through for. Research traffic is being absorbed before it reaches your site, and what remains is the traffic that was always worth the most: someone deciding who to buy from. As your SEO consultant, I get your brand in front of those buyers.

I focus your program on those three moments, in Google and in AI answers at the same time.

Research & discovery

People use Google, and increasingly AI tools, to work out their problem and which businesses could solve it. Your content needs to detail who your brand is, your offering, and your competitive differentiation.

Comparison

For most industries, buyers weigh up several options before choosing. Being visible in more than one place matters here: ranking in Google, and being named by AI tools.

Deciding

One business gets the enquiry. Reviews, how professional your website is, and whether your brand reads as the more credible, more capable option that can genuinely help with their need are what influence it.

SEO focused on revenue, not rankings or traffic

Every piece of work is tied to a clear revenue outcome.
Strategy is built around your business, never a template.
The highest-impact opportunities get worked first.
You see commercial momentum early, not 6–12 months in.

LeadSight: see exactly what your SEO delivers in revenue, not rankings

Most businesses can't clearly see how SEO contributes to revenue. They rely on traffic, rankings or last-click attribution, which only tells part of the story.

So I built LeadSight, software made purely to give service-model businesses visibility over the revenue their digital marketing generates. It shows how much revenue your SEO is driving, in dollars.

It doesn't stop at SEO. You get the same transparency across your other channels, so every decision about where to invest is grounded in real revenue rather than a dashboard of proxies.

Built on data. Driven by results

My background in data science shapes how I approach SEO. Every decision is backed by analysis and aligned to what actually drives revenue, not vanity metrics.

Revenue

Where your revenue comes from

See exactly where your leads and sales come from, not just traffic. I connect search performance directly to real business results, so you can see what's working and why.

Prioritisation

The biggest levers first

I model which opportunities carry the most revenue potential before any work starts, so the roadmap is ordered by what will move the business, not by what's easiest to tick off.

Forecasting

Honest projections

You get a realistic view of what the work should return and by when, based on your market and your site rather than an optimistic sales figure.

Refinement

Continuous testing

SEO is not static. I continuously test, refine and improve based on real performance data to maximise results over time.

Services

Every engagement starts with a consultation and a look at your site. Scope follows the business, never a package.

What working with me looks like

Most clients come to me after working with an agency, so here's an honest side-by-side of what tends to change. Senior involvement, tailored strategy, and reporting tied to revenue.

Working with me
You work directly with a senior SEO specialist from day one.
I build strategy entirely around your business.
I prioritise work by revenue potential.
I connect reporting directly to sales and revenue.
I keep my client list deliberately small, with senior focus throughout.
I work like a connected part of your team, not a third party treating you as another account number.

I'm a partner accountable to your growth.

The typical agency setup
× Sold by a senior, then handed to a junior account manager.
× Fixed packages and templated deliverables.
× Work driven by monthly quotas.
× Reporting focused on rankings and traffic.
× Attention split across a high volume of accounts.
× No direct contact with the specialist doing the work.

An agency manages your account.

No jargon. No black box

Most business owners I work with have never had SEO explained to them properly, only sold to them. That changes on the first call.

SEO explained in plain English

You don't need to know what a canonical tag is, and you shouldn't have to sit through a call pretending you do. I explain what I'm doing, why it matters and what it should return, in the same language you'd use to describe your own business.

That includes being straight about forecasts. I'll tell you what SEO can realistically achieve for your business, how long it should take and what it won't fix, before you spend anything, rather than promising numbers to win the job.

Ask me anything at any point. There are no stupid questions in a field this full of jargon, and a consultant who can't explain their work simply usually doesn't understand it well enough.

You see where every dollar goes

Every managed SEO program runs to a written plan you receive up front, so you know what's being worked on and why before it happens. Nothing is decided behind the curtain.

You then receive every single piece of work delivered against that plan: the audits, the pages, the copy, the technical fixes, the placements. Combined with LeadSight's revenue reporting, you can see exactly what you paid for and exactly what it returned.

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Ask me directly on a consultation call.

Can an SEO consultant drive new business?

Yes. When the work targets the searches people make while deciding who to buy from. That's the difference between traffic and revenue: I plan around commercial intent first, then support it with the technical and content work that lets those pages compete.

What does an SEO consultant actually do?

It depends which service you're after. Managed SEO, for example, covers search growth strategy, market and competitor research, technical auditing and implementation, content strategy, copywriting with on-shore contracted copywriters, website design and development input, Google Business Profile optimisation, and off-site authority building including backlinks and digital PR. Consulting engagements are narrower: strategy, auditing and oversight while your team executes.

Should I hire an SEO consultant or an agency?

An agency gives you a team and a process, but the person who pitched you usually isn't the SEO specialist who will be working on your account. It's usually a salesperson trying to meet their KPIs. With an SEO freelancer or independent consultant, you get one senior specialist end to end. If your program needs more hands (developers, writers, outreach) I brief and oversee them rather than hand you off.

How is your approach different from other SEO consultants?

A background in data science, my own revenue-tracking platform, deep experience getting clients featured in trusted publications, and a focus on being visible right when customers are choosing who to buy from, including in AI tools. Every recommendation ties back to revenue: no vanity metrics, no slide-friendly fluff.

Do you work alone, or do you have a team?

I do the SEO work myself, and that doesn't change. Some parts of a program need other specialists though: copywriters, developers, designers, digital PR. I've partnered with some of the best in each of those areas and work with them day to day across all my clients. I brief them on exactly what the SEO needs, then oversee and project manage their work so everything is implemented to a high standard and precisely as the strategy requires. On a managed SEO retainer their costs are included in your monthly figure, and I stay accountable for the output.

I don't know anything about SEO. Is that a problem?

Not at all, and you don't need to learn. Most of my clients run businesses where SEO is one of twenty things they're responsible for. I explain everything in plain English, tell you what each piece of work is meant to achieve in business terms, and never hide behind jargon. You'll always know what's happening and what it's worth, without needing to become an expert.

How long until I see results?

Expect early movement in the first two to three months on technical and on-page work, with compounding growth from there. Competitive markets and new domains take longer. I'll tell you what's realistic for your site before you commit, not after.

What about AI search: does SEO still matter?

More than ever, but differently. AI answers absorb the research questions, so the value sits in commercial queries and in being the business the models recommend. That means clean technical foundations, consistent facts about your business everywhere it appears, and content credible enough for the models to put you forward.

How do you report on revenue rather than rankings?

Through LeadSight, my own attribution software. It ties leads and closed deals back to the channel that produced them, so your report shows dollars from SEO alongside your other channels, with rankings and traffic kept as diagnostics rather than headline numbers.

My business is only local. Can SEO really help?

Local is where SEO is most direct. A properly optimised Google Business Profile, service and location pages that actually answer the query, and local citations usually move the phone before anything else does.

How much does SEO cost?

It depends on your market, your site's current state and the scope we agree on. I quote after a consultation and a look at your site, never off a rate card. You'll get a fixed monthly figure and a clear picture of what's included.

Let's talk about your search growth goals
